Watercolours
I am a largely self-taught artist whose artistic journey began in 1988 with hand-painted silk scarves juried for the Olympic gift pavilion. From 1989 through 1991, I created one-of-a-kind Catherine Warren Designs jewellery for a Canadian clothing company serving the three western provinces.
In 2009, I took up watercolours with an English watercolourist. I continue to develop skills through artist-taught workshops and webinars and by observing nature, people and animals.
My first solo showing was at a local gallery I was thrilled to be voted viewers’ choice in an emerging-artists show in 2012. My work has been juried into ASA “Festive Spirit”, the Calyx Distinctive Art Show & Sale, Federation of Canadian Artists “All Things Spring”, the Leighton Art Center’s Christmas in the County and Clothesline sales, as well as the Colour Yellow and the Abstract shows at the Canmore Art Gallery.
I was invited to exhibit for the 2014 spring season at the Darolekram Cultural Institution Art Gallery in Teheran, Iran. I attained Active Member status in the Canadian Federation of Artists. I have co-curated collaborative art auctions, fashion show, and fundraisers.
Artist Statement
Cathie derives inspiration from the flow and spirit of life. Gardens, landscapes and whimsical ideas capture her attention and trigger her imagination. However, flowers provide grist for both abstract and representational watercolour creations.
The sense of wonder triggered, and the emotional connection established are the qualities she wishes to transmit to the viewer underlie each painting. Cathie tries to incorporate an aura unique to each flower, landscape or abstract.
Cathie is captivated by colour and movement. They are integral to her life and are at the core of her art.
